A Future and a Hope

Jeremiah 29:11

Years ago our friend Pierre built the sign and had this verse painted on it. I have always love the verse and was happy to see it up at the center, for all to see, written in French. After all, it’s what we try to do in Haiti, share the hope of the Lord.

Pierre planned a special dinner at a local restaurant. It was unusual, to go out to eat in Haiti, but we welcomed the chance. At the end of dinner he took out a manila envelope. As he started arranging the papers on the table he spoke,

“I need to introduce you to someone, her name is Anchelle. She is one of the brightest students I have ever known. She wants to be a doctor but her family could never afford to send her to college. They are destitute farmers, just struggling to survive. If there is any possible way you could help her, I would be very grateful. She is the smartest student in my group.”

Here we are almost 4 years later. Anchelle is second in her class in medical school. She is finishing next year and will start her residency. Anchelle is honoring the sacrifice made by so many to make her education possible. For less than $2000 a year Anchelle will become a female doctor in Haiti. Haiti is known for its lack of sufficient doctors. Anchelle is working to change that.

I can’t think of a better legacy then to help a young person see their dreams realized.

This is what Hut Outreach does. Be the hope.
